Former Inter defender Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Colonnese has spoken on the importance of Inter’s next two games for their season as a whole.

“It is an important week for Inter. They have shown to have character and belief. They can aim for something that was unexpected at the beginning of the year and now have two games where they can continue to demonstrate their strength,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva earlier on today.

“In the Milan derby, Inter had the conviction to get themselves out of a complicated situation. In the second half they returned to being the team that has been seen for most of this year, a team with desire, malice and character. The support from the fans gave them confidence too.”

Colonnese then went on to speak about the absence of goalkeeper and club captain Samir Handanovic who is currently sidelined with a hairline fracture to the small finger of his left hand and appears set to miss Inter’s next few matches as a result.

“Inter won the derby without Handanovic, I don’t know if they will sign another goalkeeper but thy have faced this emergency by winning with Padelli. We will see if Handanovic will return but Inter is mentally strong and is very dangerous to everyone.”

In conclusion, Colonnese spoke on recent arrival Christian Eriksen, who joined Inter on a four and a half year deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur during the recent January transfer window.

“He is a champion, you have to understand how he will be placed in a three-man midfield. He will have to play as the mezzala because Conte will hardly change his system.”

Colonnese joint Inter back in the Summer of 1997 from Roma and would go on to spend three years with the club. He made 80 appearances for the club during that time and was part of the 1997 UEFA Cup winning side.
