Bruno Spindel, the sporting director of Flamengo, has shared his delight at the club’s capture of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa from Inter during the recent January transfer window.

The 23-year-old striker spent all of 2019 out on loan at the Rio de Janeiro based club and during that spell he scored 43 goals and tallied 13 assists in 58 appearances across all competitions for the club.

The Brazilian international proved pivotal in Flamengo winning both the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Copa Libertadores and also played a key role in them making the final of the Club World Cup.

Inter and Flamengo first held talks over a permanent move back in August and it is understood there was an agreement in principle reached then although given all he achieved after that, the terms of the agreement changed.

The clubs struck a deal during the January transfer window with reports at the time suggesting Inter pocketed in the region of €20 million from his sale.

“Gabigol is a great player. He is an important player for us and we are happy to have bought him from Inter. We heavily rely on him. He is a top player and we want to win a lot with him,” he explained in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.
