Noted Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has admitted to being surprised that Inter have Daniele Padelli as their back-up goalkeeper.
Padelli has been called upon in both of Inter’s past two matches due to number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic being sidelined with a hairline fracture to his small finger in his left hand.
The 34-year-old joined Inter back in the Summer of 2017 on a free transfer but has found opportunities limited with his two appearances as of late taking his total tally with Inter to just four appearances across all competitions to date.
“It is strange that a team like Inter, who have done so much on the transfer market, have stuck with Padelli as their back-up goalkeeper. Padelli was a good goalkeeper and probably still is, but he hasn’t properly played football for almost four years,” he explained in an interview with CalcioMercato.com.
Sconcerti then spoke on the reports in the media that have suggested Inter could bring in free agent goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano to provide some extra cover in the absence of Handanovic, who is not expected back until the end of this month at least.
As per reports, Viviano is in training with the Nerazzurri club who could offer him a deal until the end of this season.
“Inter are trying to make up for it now with Viviano, who has also been standing still for a long time. Why has such an important, rich and ambitious club overlooked such a fundamental detail,” he questioned.
