Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has urged Inter to channel their enthusiasm and not become over enthusiastic and end up becoming complacent.

Spirits are particularly high at the moment after Inter came from two goals down to win Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina against city rivals AC Milan 4-2 and Mazzola has insisted that the team cannot just think they will win every game off the back of this result.

“Enthusiasm can be a risk because you can go on the pitch and think: ‘We are the ones who always win’. The manager must be good at managing the situation,” he remarked in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.

He also spoke on the many reports circulating in the media linking Inter with a move for Dries Mertens, whose contract with fellow Serie A side Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season: “I like him, I would like to see him at Inter.”

Inter are currently competing on three fronts with them sitting top of the Serie A table after 23 games played, in the semi finals of the Coppa Italia and in the first knockout round of the Europa League too.

In conclusion Mazzola was asked if Inter should prioritise any one competition over another.

“Inter are in competition for the Scudetto and Coppa Italia, we can think about what to choose if we have to choose.”
