Respected Italian football journalist Matteo Marani has spoken on the improvement that both Inter and Lazio have made this season compared to last ahead of their meeting at the Stadio Olimpico this coming weekend.

Both clubs find themselves currently well in the race for the Serie A title alongside reigning champions Juventus. Inter are currently topping the table with 54 points to their name, Juventus are in second with the same points but an inferior goal difference and Lazio are in third position with 53 points.

Sunday’s match will be the second time this season that the clubs meet and Inter will no doubt be hoping that they can repeat the result of the first meeting which they won 1-0 thanks to a Danilo D’Ambrosio goal.

“Inter have 11 more points and Lazio have 15 more. There has been a lot of work done behind these two exceptional improvements,” Marani remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia whilst he was in their studios earlier on today.

“Sunday is decisive in understanding if the Biancocelesti can make it for the title. It is clear that if a win for Inzaghi’s side arrives, we would be looking at a serious candidate for the title.”

Marani proceeded to praise Inter and shared his belief that the Nerazzurri have what it takes to go all the way and win their first Serie A title since the 2009/10 season.

“Inter has always been Conte’s Inter, even in the most difficult days. They had a slowdown with a series of draws, but if you look at how they have done in the league they have only lost once and that was against Juventus.

“They are a team who have consistency. They now also have more alternatives to call upon off the bench in Alexis Sanchez and Christian Eriksen to name just two of them. Inter have the quality to go all the way but it will depend on what Juventus do.”
