In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini has spoken on the three way Serie A title race that is currently taking place.
Inter, Juventus and Lazio are all vying for the title and Inter are currently leading the way with them sitting top with 54 points after 23 games played. Juventus have the same points although they have an inferior goal difference whilst Lazio are sitting in third with 53 points to their name.
Mancini started the interview, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milan based newspaper, by discussing the struggles Juventus have had this season with them not being quite as dominant as they have been for the past few years.
“Serie A is a beautiful competition, with three teams fighting for the top spot and all the direct meetings are still to be played.
“After many years of winning, it’s normal to go through a complicated moment. This is also because Juventus have changed their coach and several of their players.
“In Italy we are used to exaggerate after a defeat, but Sarri’s team remain the best.”
He then spoke on both Inter and Lazio.
“Inter and Lazio did well when they took advantage of Juve’s setback, if they manage to stay in touch, they could fight for the title. Lazio are the big surprise. On Sunday they will play Inter in a very important game.”
Mancini, who managed Inter for six years over two spells in charge, then went on to praise current Inter manager Antonio Conte for the work he has done and is continuing to do with the Nerazzurri team.
“I will compliment Conte, for what he has proven. He got the players he wanted, and he is taking Inter back to where they deserve to be.”
