Lautaro Martinez’s lack of any form of European citizenship could make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign him in the Summer transfer window according to a report from Spanish news outlet Marca.

Real Madrid are one of several clubs to have sparked an interest in signing the 22-year-old but they need to work out a solution in order to sign him.

La Liga rules only permit teams to register three non-EU players and Los Blancos already have three in their ranks with a fourth on the way in Reinier Jesus.

Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes currently occupy the three non-EU spots but Vinicius can acquire a Spanish passport prior to the start of next season which is how Real Madrid will be able to register Reinier.

In order for Real Madrid to sign Lautaro, the easiest solution would be for them to simply loan or sell one of the players above but for the time being this is difficult as Real Madrid have a lot of faith in all four of them.
