Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has praised Inter ahead of Sunday night’s top of the table meeting between the two clubs at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital.

Inter head into this game currently leading the way at the top of the Serie A table after 23 games played with them having picked up 54 points.

Milinkovic-Savic’s Lazio are however hot on their tails and are sitting just a single point behind them in third place and could therefore overtake them if they are to win the match.

“Inter are strong, they have many big names in their team. They are playing well and they recently won a derby that has given them strength. We will be playing at home and from the first minute we have to be bad. Hopefully it won’t end like two years ago,” he remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Serbian national team player then cautiously spoke about he and his teammates chances of being crowned champions of Italy come the end of this season.

“I didn’t think we could be so high, but slowly we raised our level by changing the mentality. We hear the word Scudetto mentioned, but we don’t think too much about it.

“If we are still up there at the end of the season we will try but it is not an obligation to win. It is important for us to make it to the Champions League but obviously we would be happy if we finish in first place.”

This season the 24-year-old has made 28 appearances across all competitions for the Biancocelesti, who he has played for since 2015. In nearly 2300 minutes, he has contributed four goals and tallied seven assists.
