Legendary Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar has discussed the close relationship he maintains with supporters of the club despite the fact he has been away for almost eight years.

“It is a huge pleasure to still be close to the Inter fans. It is wonderful for me. I gave many years of commitment and struggle for this club,” he remarked in an interview with FCInterNews.it.

“The world got to know me thanks to this club. I have to thank Inter forever for that and when I can be close to the fans and to this club, it is always a pleasure for me.”

The former Brazilian national team goalkeeper, who made 87 caps over a ten year association with the Seleção, then went on to speak about Inter’s current kit, which, although in the club’s traditional black and blue colours, features a rather unique design in the sense that it is a mixture of straight and diagonal lines.

“I think that over the years Inter have always been creative, I remember that when I played we had the white shirt with the red cross of Milan, or once the one with the dragon. I think Inter have a nice staff behind the scenes that do the best for the fans, it has always been this way.”

The now 40-year-old joined Inter in January 2005 but was initially registered to Chievo Verona due to non-EU player rules. From the Summer of 2005, Cesar would go on to make no less than 300 competitive appearances across all competitions for the club before leaving the club at the end of the 2011/12 Serie A season.

During his time representing the club, Cesar, who is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers that the club have ever had, won a grand total of 12 trophies, including one Champions League.
