Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his theory that Inter, particularly the team’s defenders, do not trust goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

Padelli has stood in for Inter’s number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic for the team’s past three games but has not been entirely convincing and has been judged to have been at either fully or partly at fault for all the goals conceded whilst he has deputised for the Slovenian.

“Inter defended far too deep. There was a misunderstanding between the defenders and goalkeeper that led to the penalty and earlier on in the first half de Vrij jumped in front of Padelli to get the ball away, could it be that Inter players do not trust him?” Bergomi, who spent his entire playing career on Inter’s books, said as he appeared on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia show Sky Calcio Club to discuss Inter’s loss to Lazio.

He then went on to speak on one of Inter’s January transfer window recruits, Christian Eriksen and why he thinks Inter manager Antonio Conte opted to not start the Danish international attacking midfielder against the Biancocelesti.

“He is a quality player but not a player suited for a 3-5-2 system. Conte wants to win and does not trust him yet to play in games like this one but he will play against Sampdoria.”

In conclusion, the 56-year-old, who was part of the Italian national team’s 1982 World Cup winning side, discussed the difficulties that the defence faced in the match.

“Conte was very worried by Milinkovic-Savic so much so that he even switch Godin and Skriniar around. They were both struggling a lot.”
