Respected Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has urged Inter manager Antonio Conte to change his midfield set-up in order to accommodate Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen joined Inter during the recent January transfer window in a deal worth around €20 million from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur and although he has featured in all five games since his arrival, he has started just once and only been on the park for a total of 137 minutes out of a possible 450 minutes.

The recently turned 28-year-old Danish national team player, who has joined Inter on a four and a half year deal, is naturally an attacking midfielder, a role which does not exist in former Italian national team manager Conte’s 3-5-2 system, a system which he has pretty much religiously stuck to all season long and does not seem all too keen to change from.

“Conte has tried to raise the personality and quality of the team and he will succeed, but Christian Eriksen is an excess right now,” Sconcerti began an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio late last night.

“Conte’s fear is that the midfield won’t make it with a mezzala like the Dane. Eriksen can do things, but he still hasn’t adapted. I understand Conte but he has to change Inter’s midfield.”
