With his goal in Sunday night’s match, Inter’s Ashley Young became the first Englishman in a quarter of a century to score a Serie A goal against Lazio, sports data and analytics company Opta have highlighted, via social media platform Twitter.
The 34-year-old, who joined Inter from Manchester United during the recent January transfer window, volleyed home to give Inter the lead in the match that they went on to lose 2-1.
The last Englishman to score a Serie A goal against Lazio before Young was Sampdoria’s David Platt back in January 1995.
