President of the Italian National Olympic Committee Giovanni Malagò discussed the Coronavirus emergency and whether it will disrupt sporting events in an interview with reporters in Siena, with his statement reported in full by ANSA.

“I am in contact with the authorities who have the responsibility, right and duty to take initiatives and precautions. If there are government authorities and local representatives that give the orders for the safety of citizens, then sport must be changed immediately. If there is an event where one of these cases occurs, sport must stop there.”

There are fears that the Coronavirus will begin to spread across Italy, with small clusters of cases cropping up across the country. With there being reports of multiple infections in Lombardy, the region of Milan, there have been some fears that tomorrow evening’s league clash against Sampdoria could be called off, for public safety reasons.

Inter are currently 3rd in the league after 24 games, sitting two points behind Lazio and three points behind league leaders and rivals Juventus. A win against the 17th placed Sampdoria tomorrow is vital for the title race, with Lazio in strong form and Juventus always remaining calm considering their recent history of dominance.
