Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s father, Mario, discussed the Argentine striker’s painful farewell from Bahia Blanca so he could join Racing and begin his football career in an interview with Argentine newspaper El Intransigente today.

“There was a lot of emotion and pride because we knew that it was his dream. It was something special and unexpected, because we had to part ways. His older brother was the one who suffered the most because they were very close, they always did everything together.”

Mario Martinez then spoke about a medical condition that the 22-year-old Nerazzurri striker was suffering from early in his career.

“At that time, he was suffering from epilepsy, the separation caused him convulsions and he was cured. Luckily everything is all right now, but at that moment it was as if a part of him was being torn away.”

Lautaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has made 30 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri so far this season, for a total of 2347 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists, shining alongside Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. He has adapted well to the tactical system of coach Antonio Conte, becoming one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe.

The 22-year-old Argentine has caught the attention of both Real Madrid and Barcelona, with the Spanish sides both believing the player could be the perfect fit for their squad. He has a €111 million release clause active in the first two weeks of July.
