Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has announced that the schools in Milan will be closed for the entirety of next week, due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report from Italian media outlet Open today.
“Even at a precautionary level, I think schools should be closed in Milan and I will propose to the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, to expand the intervention at the metropolitan city level. It is a precautionary intervention. Today we’re going to close them for a week, and I think it will be enough.”
The mayors of the metropolitan area will meet tomorrow at 12pm to discuss whether the schools of the other 133 municipalities should also be closed, the report continues. Four Serie A games have already been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, including Inter’s league clash against Sampdoria which was scheduled for this evening.
There are now some fears that Inter’s Europa League clash against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets will be affected by the outbreak. Some ideas to ensure the safety of the players and fans including postponing the game or playing it behind closed doors, although there have been no official confirmations from UEFA yet. Inter underwent their usual training session this morning, although there were extra security measures in place in their training ground.
