A report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has criticised the decision by Lega Serie A to postpone five Serie A games this weekend, including Inter’s Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

The report details how the reason given by the League for the decision, which was that it was for the safety of the fans and the look of the league, is simply an excuse, with some suggesting that it’s instead all about money. It’s unclear which looks worse, the Derby d’Italia being played behind closed doors or the look of disorangisation by the League.

The decision has also affected the title race, the report continues. Lazio are now top of the league, thanks to playing all their games. The Roman club also have a much more relaxed calendar, as they aren’t competing in the Europa League or the Coppa Italia. Juventus also benefit from the postponement, as they won’t lose ticket revenue now and can avoid facing the Nerazzurri whilst they are experiencing a period of poor form.
