Inter have confirmed that they have made a significant donation to the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences “L. Sacco” of Milan through way of an official statement posted on the club website.

The Nerazzurri club have made a donation of €100,000 to help support the department in their research into the Coronavirus, a virus that there is now over 3000 confirmed cases of in Italy.

Coronavirus has wreaked havoc on the Italian football calendar in recent weeks with no less than nine Serie A games postponed as a result. Moreover, the two Coppa Italia semi final second legs were postponed as a result of it too.

The Italian government drastically ordered that sporting events are to be played behind closed doors until at least April 3 in a bid to limit the potential spread of the virus in the country, which is the worst affected of all European nations by some distance.

Inter president Steven Zhang said: “Inter has an indissoluble bond with the city of Milan and is proud of the dedication with which all the staff of the Sacco Hospital are dealing with the exceptional situation.

“Since the beginning of the Coronavirus emergency we have followed with particular attention and apprehension the evolution of the situation, both as a Club and as a shareholder, stressing in all locations as the only priority was public health and safety. It is for this reason that FC Internazionale Milano feels the duty to support the Sacco Hospital.”
