Matthijs de Ligt is set to be given the nod to start over Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini in this weekend’s Derby D’Italia match against Inter according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

Chiellini has not long returned from a long term injury and although he has seen some time on the pitch as of late, he is still training separately to the rest of his teammates at times to help aid him in his bid to return to full fitness ahead of the season run in.

Some reports in the past few days had suggested that Chiellini would be starting alongside Leonardo Bonucci at the back for the Bianconeri but Sky Sport Italia expect the Dutchman to play instead of the highly experienced Italian.

2018 Golden Boy award winner de Ligt has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date this season in his first season with the Allianz Stadium club. In almost 2200 minutes, he’s contributed two goals and helped Juventus record eight clean sheets.
