Inter legend Beppe Bergomi spoke about tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia between the Nerazzurri and Juventus in an interview with Italian media outlet CalcioToday earlier today.

“Undoubtedly playing without an audience. You have to understand how the players will react, for sure Juventus are penalized because they built their fort at the stadium. It’s games that give you the energy anyway. I hope to see an intense match, with the Bianconeri taking over the game and the Nerazzurri ready to counterattack.”

He then spoke about former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has struggled to convince coach Antonio Conte since his arrival in January. He is not likely to start tomorrow.

“In Conte’s 3-5-2 it’s not easy to insert a player with his characteristics. He has two good feet, he’s good at dodging behind the midfielder, he has a good shot, he creates assists, but you can’t expect intensity, ball recovery and insertion. Eriksen needs to get close to the goal, but I wonder if Inter are able to change his tactical scheme. It takes time to figure it out.”

The Nerazzurri legend also discussed the title race between Inter, Juventus and Lazio.

“Scudetto? Antonio has no obligations in this respect, let’s remember where he started and how much he reduced the gap with Juve. Besides, if he loses the derby tomorrow, I think they’re out of the fight. This postponement situation is heavily penalizing Inter compared to their rivals.”

Finally, Bergomi spoke about his favourites to win the league title this season.

“Today for me the favourites are Lazio. The Biancocelesti play better than anyone else, they have three solutions, they can play with width, between the lines and if necessary long and high balls for Milinkovic-Savic. In half an hour they can put the result to bed, like the game against Bologna, which at the moment Juve and Inter can’t do.”

Inter are currently third in the league table after 24 games, sitting six points behind the Bianconeri and eight points behind league leaders Lazio. The Roman club have played two more games than Inter, thanks to the fact that none of their games have been postponed so far.

The Bianconeri have only played one more game than Inter and have the chance to return to the top of the league table tomorrow if they beat the Milanese club. In the first Derby d’Italia of the season, the Turin based club came out on top 2-1.
