Arsenal striker and Inter target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang discussed his role and understanding of football in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports UK earlier today.

“I’m a striker and I have to defend my role, I think you don’t have to win trophies to be a ‘top’ striker. Sure, it helps, but many great players have not won trophies but are respected for their qualities.”

Aubameyang, who is contracted to the North London club until 2021, has been linked with Inter recently, with some suggesting that the Nerazzurri may look to sign the 30-year-old Gabonese striker in the upcoming summer transfer window. The player is reportedly unsettled with the Gunners and isn’t looking to sign a new contract with the side.

The 30-year-old has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2621 minutes. In that time, he has scored 20 goals and provided one assist, being one of the few bright spots in Arsenal’s campaign this season. However, his high wage demands mean that a contract renewal with the Gunners is incredibly likely, suggesting that the club may look to cash in on him in the summer.
