1978 World Cup winner with Argentina Mario Kempes discussed tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia between Juventus and Inter, and the duel between Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala, in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

First, Kempes discussed tomorrow’s game and how it’s going to be played behind closed doors.

“It’s a classic game, even though all we’re talking about now is the virus. I’ll be honest, it would be better to stop Serie A. People are part of this show, if you’re forced to play behind closed doors, you distort football itself. Of course, in Italy they play exceptional strikers, many Argentinians.”

He then touched on the battle between Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, both Argentina teammates.

“They’re very different, but it’s a good duel. Dybala is a joy for his teammates, while Toro fights and looks for the goal. It’s annoying for those who mark him and he’s the first to defend. His path is marked out because he lives on goals. Now he’s exploded with Lukaku, they look like two monsters.”

Kempes spoke about the future of the Argentinian national team with both Dybala and Lautaro leading the line.

“Both of them can be the future of Argentina and lead the post-Messi era. They will never be the players who win a World Cup alone like Maradona but, with the right help, they can make a piece of history too.”

Finally, Kempes spoke about Inter owned forward Mauro Icardi, who wasn’t brought with the Argentina squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“All I can say is that, for him, like for everyone, it’s only the pitch that matters. Life on the outside doesn’t have to matter in judgement, Icardi’s goals are Icardi’s judge. As you know very well in Italy, he always puts the ball in the net and that’s what every team needs. Even Argentina.”

Lautaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has impressed this season under coach Antonio Conte. He has made 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2347 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
