Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has discussed the interest in him in the January transfer window earlier this year in an interview with French broadcaster Telefoot earlier today.

“The most interesting option for me was Inter, but the problem was that the negotiation was dragging on too long. Lazio and Tottenham were there too, but I was stuck.”

Giroud, whose contract expires with the West London club at the end of this season, was close to a move to the Milanese club in the January transfer window, with coach Antonio Conte specifically believing that the 2018 World Cup winner would be the perfect backup to Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

Giroud’s move never materialised and he has now signalled that he is happy to sign a contract renewal with the Blues. Since the failed move, Giroud has made four appearances across all competitions under coach Frank Lampard, including playing a full 90 minutes in the side’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Liverpool.

Giroud has made 12 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 598 minutes. In that time, he’s scored two goals, one of which was against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.
