Inter CEO Beppe Marotta stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia moments ago to share his thoughts on all things concerning the Nerazzurri.
Marotta was speaking ahead of the Serie A clash at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, where the Bianconeri host the Nerazzurri in a match played behind closed doors due to the outbreak of the coronavirs in northers Italy and with kick-off scheduled for 20.45 CET.
The former Juventus CEO underlined that the current situation that all of Italian society is undergoing is surreal but argued that he and the Nerazzurri are all professionals who will do their best on the pitch.
“It is certainly a surreal to play a game without fans is equal to zero. I think it is more difficult for the players to fight the right motivation. It is a paradoxical situations which we hope ends as soon as possible.
“I am a man of sport, a professional who is tied to the club where I have been. You have to separate these issues, what is important is that you love this profession and this I do to this day. I am in a great club and I will do everything to make our fans and the club happy.”
Marotta was then asked about why Antonio Conte still feels he cannot start with January signing Danish international midfielder Chrostian Eriksen.
“The matches are 90 minutes long, this doesn’t mean that the choices made from start have to be reckless. Conte evaluates on a day by day basis, then important players can always come on from the bench.”
In conclusion Marotta was asked if he thinks that the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy as well as all of Europe could end up with the Serie A and all European competitions being suspended.
“These are different jurisdictions and different evaluations, all FA’s look at the competitions that they organize in every league. It is a different thing with regards to what guidelines from UEFA are, which are made by responsible directors that take the emergency in Italy into account and evaluate all situations.”
“I don’t think [there is a risk that the European cups will be postponed], my feeling is that games will be played behind closed doors.
“But these evaluations are first to be made by our government with and then by UEFA.”
