Barcelona are considering whether to pay Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s release clause or to negotiate the price with the Nerazzurri by offering a differently structured deal, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato.it today.

The report details how the Blaugrana are fans of the 22-year-old Argentine forward, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, and believe he would be the perfect replacement for the aging Luis Suarez. The Blaugrana are debating whether to pay his €111 million release clause, valid for the first two weeks of July, or to pay a higher fee spread out over a few years.

The Nerazzurri are already preparing a strategy should Lautaro leave in the summer, the report continues. Among the names under consideration to replace him are 24-year-old German striker Timo Werner, who has scored 27 goals and provided 11 assists across 35 appearances so far this season across all competitions. Other names include Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored 20 goals in 32 games so far this season and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, who has scored 15 goals in 33 games this season.
