Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri discussed this evening’s Derby d’Italia between the Bianconeri and Inter in an interview with Italian broadcaster Juventus TV yesterday.

“This is the most prestigious match in Serie A for its history and for the teams, and this season also for the standings. After two important transfer markets Inter have become a favourite for the league, just like us. It’s going to be a good match.”

The former Napoli and Chelsea coach then discussed what he expects from tonight’s game.

“The game will be difficult tactically given the way our opponents play. For us Inter’s size could be a problem, but both teams have characteristics with which they can put their opponents in trouble. One of our goals is to have a high ball possession in their half. Tomorrow will be more important than usual.”

The 61-year-old Italian coach also touched on the current condition of the Juventus squad.

“Right now, we’re seeing a lot of players return and that’s a great fortune. In the last few days the quality of training has increased and for us this is very important. We have attackers with different characteristics and sometimes with the same form we are a different team changing the interpreters.”

Finally, Sarri discussed Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who will play his 1000th career game tonight.

“Cristiano is a player who exalts himself in numerous competitions. This is a great goal, but he has to set himself new goals immediately. It’s a cue for his teammates to give him a gift.”

Juventus are currently second in the league table after playing 25 games, sitting on 60 points. They are two points behind league leaders Lazio, who have played one more game as they haven’t had any of their games postponed yet. Should the Turin based club beat Inter tonight, they will return to the top of the league table.

Inter are third in the league table after playing 24 games, sitting six points behind the Old Lady. A victory against Juventus is crucial should the Nerazzurri wish to remain in the title race alongside the Bianconeri and the Biancocelesti.
