Former Juventus and AC Milan coach Fabio Capello discussed Inter’s 2-0 Derby d’Italia defeat to Juventus last night in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia immediately after the game.

First, Capello discussed the game tactically and who was in control.

“Juve owned the pitch in the last 20-25 minutes. They did what they wanted, but I say that it was also because of Inter’s demerit.

“They tried to play an offensive press but they almost never managed to recover the ball. The most serious thing was the moment Juve began to take possession of the ball and they could have done it for as long as they wanted. There was no reaction from Inter.”

Finally, the former Juventus and AC Milan coach then spoke about former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, who was brought on as a substitute in the second half for Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella.

“He never got into the game because when Inter came in, he was wandering around the field. He could become a Pirlo style player with his quality and his vision of the game. He could become very interesting. At Inter there is no player who moves past the man, that’s why I’m talking about flat play.”

Inter are now third in the league table after playing 25 games, sitting nine points behind league leaders Juventus. Even if the Nerazzurri beat Sampdoria in their game in hand, they would still be six points behind the Old Lady, effectively ending their scudetto hope.

Lazio are still in the title race, sitting only one point behind Juventus, although they will have to wait until next week for a chance to overtake the Bianconeri.
