The Italian Footballers’ Association has reiterated that they believe the league should be called off until the Coronavirus emergency has been dealt with, according to a report from Italian news outlet ANSA today.

“The leagues must be stopped. The signal that sports institutions give is very bad. It is dangerous to travel to and from the red zones, it is dangerous to play football, it is dangerous to say goodbye. The teams are unfortunately taking to the pitch today for duty towards those who do not have the courage to decide that football cannot have exceptions against the coronavirus.”

The AIC then discussed the federal council meeting set for tomorrow

“On Tuesday there will be the federal council, we expect only one thing, the suspension of the leagues until there are the conditions to play.”

There has been a lot of criticism towards Lega Serie A and their president Paolo Dal Pino, as well as the FIGC and their president Gabriele Gravina, for their handling of the Coronavirus emergency. Last week the League changed their minds multiple times in regard to the games, first suggesting that they will be played behind closed doors before postponing them a week, causing the entire season of the calendar to change.

Inter still don’t have a date set for their postponed clash against Sampdoria. The Nerazzurri are now nine points behind league leaders Juventus after their 2-0 defeat yesterday, but they have played one game less.
