Gabriel Gravina, the president of the Italian football federation (FIGC), is determined to ensure that the 2019/20 Serie A season is completed according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.

Serious doubt has been cast over the remainder of the league campaign with a new government decree meaning all sporting events have been postponed until at least April 3.

Two rounds of Serie A action will therefore be postponed but with very little time remaining before the season should end, it remains to be seen just how the situation will be dealt with.

10 Serie A games were postponed prior to this latest decree and whilst nine have been rescheduled and some even played already, Inter’s home match against Sampdoria still needs a new date.

There is currently no available date due to Inter’s involvement in the Europa League and things have only gotten more difficult now three games need to be rescheduled.

As per the report, FIGC have started talks with European football’s governing body UEFA over the possible extension of the season by 7-10 days to allow for games to be caught up upon.

It also goes on to state that Serie A could be a 22 team league next season as Gravina wants to avoid getting caught up in a legal battle that would be almost inevitable if the decision was taken to stop promotion from Serie B.
