In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Getafe president Angel Torres has reiterated that his side will not travel to Milan to face Inter in the Europa League amid the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.

Torres has insisted that health must come first and that they will be going nowhere near Milan although the Spanish side are still waiting for word from European football’s governing body UEFA.

“There will be no match against Inter, we are not going to Milan. The situation in Madrid and in Milan is bad. Health comes first and we have decided not to travel.

“We are waiting for answers from UEFA. We believe that before football comes health and we will respect this principle and accept any consequences.”

The Spanish government have ordered a ban on all flights between Spain and Italy and Torres was asked if the club would consider seeking special dispensation.

“I will not ask for a special permit that could jeopardise health. Special permits are asked for urgent matters, and a football game is not urgent.”

He was then asked what, if any, contact he has had from UEFA with regard to the whole situation, which appears to be far from easy to solve.

“We have been told that today they will make a decision. However, to take away any doubts whatsoever, we have already made the decision for them. We will not travel, they can do what they want and I want to emphasise that Inter has fault in any of this.”

In conclusion, he was asked by the Milan based newspaper about the possibility of the game being moved elsewhere to a neutral venue in a country where there is not as much of a crisis.

“This would be the most logical thing to do although I do not think it will be easy to find a country who will welcome two teams that come from risk zones and that come from cities in Milan and Madrid that have high numbers of cases. Maybe in 15 days things will change, in the meantime, let’s see what happens.”
