Giovanni Malago, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), has admitted it was inevitable that Italian sporting competitions would have been suspended had they not already been.

In the past few days CONI ordered that all sporting events are postponed until at least April 3 and this has led to a great deal of uncertainty surrounding what will happen with the competitions.

It has been suggested in the media that Serie A may not even finish and the Italian football federation (FIGC) met yesterday to try and come up with some solutions for problems that would arise if that does indeed happen.

Inter, as Malago points out, are one club who may not even be able to fulfil all of their postponed fixtures due to the fact there is simply no dates available for games to be played.

“It seems to me that the suspension of activities was inevitable taking into account all of the facts,” Malago began an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva earlier on today.

“What is certain is that you cannot plan what will happen. For example, Inter already have a very clogged schedule and therefore we have to see what will be done and if they will carry on in Europe or not.”
