Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that the Summer transfer window could be shorter than usual as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus crisis.

Leagues across Europe and other leagues on other continents have taken the decision to postpone all activity with Serie A and other Italian league’s among them.

Due to the leagues being postponed, lots of questions are being asked about how the seasons will be finished if at all and a number of suggestions have been put out there on how things could work out.

One such suggestion has been allowing leagues to continue up until June but in order for this to happen European football’s governing body UEFA have to agree to postpone this Summer’s European Championship’s.

If they do postpone EURO 2020, leagues could perhaps be allowed to go on until the end of June but this would complicate matters as far as the transfer market, which traditionally opens up on the first of June is concerned.

“The transfer market period that we are used to of it being in June, July and August could be reduced to two months, July and August,” he remarked as he appeared in Sky Sport Italia’s studios earlier on today.

“It will certainly be a shorter period a bit similar to the January transfer window where business is conducted in a month.

“The next transfer could be remembered as one of the busiest and most lively ones as it would be full of twists.”
