Former Lazio forward Paolo Di Canio discussed Inter defender Milan Skriniar and his performances so far this season in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“I think we don’t always have to exalt just a few plays because it’s the details that make the difference. Skriniar is good, he’s very good at being on the man to mark, to stay on top of you. But when he has his opponent far away, he doesn’t know what to do, he gets confused.”

Di Canio then highlighted how Skriniar seems to struggle in big games against strong opponents, such as in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

“You saw him against Barcelona and Lazio. Against Juve he was supposed to fall into the back of the pitch and intercept Matuidi’s cross that passed him by an inch and instead it missed his foot.”

The 25-year-old Slovakian defender, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2762 minutes. In that time, he’s provided one assist and acquired nine yellow cards. The player has helped the Milanese club keep nine clean sheets.

Skriniar’s strong performances with Inter since his arrival in 2017 have seen many clubs interested in him, although a move away never materialised. Both Manchester City and Real Madrid are considering signing the player, as both clubs appreciate his qualities and younger age.
