Attilio Fontana, the governor of the Lombardy region in North Italy, discussed the fight against the Coronavirus and the work of Inter in a speech earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet Mi-lorenteggio.com.

“Once again I would like to thank all those who are helping with concrete actions the region of Lombardy. The people of solidarity, on a national and international level, is truly vast and gives us further strength to move forward with the utmost determination in the battle against the Coronavirus.”

Fontana then gave a special thanks to the generosity of Inter, who have made mask donations to hospitals in the region.

“Today I would like to express my special thanks to Inter. President Steven Zhang’s squad has informed us that it has made 65,000 masks available to the Hospital of Bergamo and 21,600 to that of Lodi. These are useful and important actions for those who, in the front line, have been working in exhausting shifts to deal with the emergency for days now.”

The Coronavirus emergency has caused the Italian government to call for a total lockdown, in order to help combat the spread of the contagion. Serie A, like many leagues around Europe, has been postponed as well, as it still wasn’t deemed safe enough to play games behind closed doors.

Considering the fact that many still want the leagues to be completed regularly, it’s likely that this summer’s European Championships will be postponed to allow leagues across Europe to be played in May and June. UEFA will meet 55 football federations on Tuesday to discuss the situation.
