UEFA and FIFA council member Evelina Christillin has claimed that Serie A has special derogation to play on past June 27 if needed.

European football’s governing body UEFA met with their 55 member associations among many other people today to try and find resolutions to the current problems football is facing due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

One of the decisions made was to postpone this Summer’s European Championship’s to next Summer.

In postponing the tournament, UEFA have allowed their member federations additional time to complete their league campaigns and cup competitions, something which would have otherwise been extremely different if not impossible had the tournament not been moved.

UEFA also decided to move the Champions League final, the game which typically ends the football season in Europe, from the end of May to June 27 instead but in an interview with Italian broadcaster Tg La7 earlier on tonight Christillin has said Serie A clubs could still play fixtures after that date.

We have the derogation to go on beyond the deadline of June 27,” she began. “We will have to see how the situation evolves. In China they are back to playing and are doing it behind closed doors. Maybe in Italy they will be able to start playing again like they are in China.”
