European football’s governing body UEFA have decided to postpone this Summer’s European Championship’s to next Summer according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
UEFA have come to this decision today in light of the current global Coronavirus pandemic and the decision to postpone the international tournament by one year will allow for European leagues and cup competitions to conclude in the coming months.
Leagues and cup competitions across the continent have been put on hold for the time being due to the pandemic but with the European Championship’s out the way, leagues now have the possibility to carry on their season’s into the Summer which would have otherwise been filled with the European Championship’s.
The Champions League and Europa League will both remain on standby for the time being whilst the situation remains as it is.
The report goes on to add that UEFA have set up two working groups. The first group will deal with the football calendar and the second group will deal with the economic consequences of the decisions taken.
