European football’s governing body UEFA want to have the current season concluded by the end of June at the latest according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

UEFA met with their 55 member associations among many other people yesterday to try and find solutions to the current problems football is faced with as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

At the meeting it was decided to postpone the European Championship’s which were due to take place this Summer until next Summer. In doing this, UEFA have opened up the month of June to allow the club season to finish.

A number of leagues have been stopped for a few weeks now and it is as yet unclear when leagues will start up. Should leagues somehow start up again next month, there will be plenty of time to conclude the season by the end of June.

However, the report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that it is more likely that football resumes at the start of May or the middle of May which obviously means there is less time to complete the season.

The report states that if the season resumes on May 2, the season can end on June 28 but if it starts after that it is likely that the season will have to run on into July by a week or two, something UEFA are keen to avoid as it will disrupt the start of next season.
