The Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has shared his belief that Serie A can resume play at the beginning of May.

Serie A, like many other leagues across the continent of Europe, has been on hold for the past few weeks due to the global Coronavirus pandemic and there has been great uncertainty about the season and when, if at all, it will resume.

European football’s governing body UEFA met with their 55 member associations yesterday and the member associations committed to finishing their seasons by June 30 at the latest – something that has been made possible due to the fact UEFA took the decision to postpone the European Championship’s from this Summer to next Summer.

As far as Serie A is concerned most teams still have 12 games to play to conclude their seasons whilst some, including Inter, have 13 games left.

“I believe that Serie A can resume playing on May 3rd. We will evaluate whether it will be behind closed doors or not. We will evaluate the situation. We hope that the Coronavirus pandemic emergency will be over by that time,” Spadafora, who has held his position since 2018, explained in an interview with Italian television programme Tg1 earlier on today.
