Espanyol winger Wu Lei has tested positive for the Coronavirus, according to a report from Italian news outlet ANSA today.

The report details how previously it was only known that some members of the Catalan club had tested positive for the contagion, but the names were not made public. However, Wu Lei’s positive test has been confirmed from reports in China.

The 28-year-old Chinese forward, who is contracted to Espanyol until 2020, has been put in quarantine in his home in Barcelona and the Chinese Football Federation is in continuous contact with Wu Lei and Espanyol in order to support him.

Wu Lei has made 38 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2101 minutes. In that time, he has scored seven goals and provided one assist, bringing a lot of new viewership to both Espanyol and La Liga as a whole as the player is one of the most successful Chinese players playing in Europe.
