In yesterday’s meeting between all 20 Serie A clubs there was a clear desire to suspend players’ salaries in March, but there was no mention of a resumption of training, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper La Stampa.

The report details how the topflight Italian sides met to discuss the current coronavirus situation, to estimate the economic impact of the emergency and to prepare a list of proposals to the government in order to help save the football system in the country.

However, the topic of training sessions was never discussed, the report continues. Whilst all league football has been postponed due to the contagion, some in the footballing world have been pushing for a return to training and even squad training, with strong protections in place to ensure that players aren’t at risk of contracting the virus. One of those pushing for this is Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who wants the squad to return to training before the end of the month.

Lega Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino briefly discussed the topic, the report continues, saying: “Let’s remain cautious.”
