Inter centre back Milan Skriniar has shared his delight and thanked people for their support upon being named the Slovakian footballer of the year.

“I’m sorry that this year the award ceremony can’t be held like every year but in this period, it’s not possible and it’s quite reasonable,” he said in an interview with Slovakian newspaper Pravda upon winning the award.

“Obviously, I was very happy with the prize and I’m happy and grateful towards the people who voted for me.

“I think Stanislav Lobotka told me last year, that someone else could only win the award when Marek Hamsik goes to China. So, I hope he’s not angry with me.

Skriniar also took the opportunity to urge people to heed the advice being given by governments and the World Health Organisation amid the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“I would like to tell people to be responsible in this period, let’s stay at home, take care of ourselves. Now, the health is the most important thing for all of us. Only in this way, we can go back to playing football and have fun.”

Skriniar joined Inter in the Summer of 2017 from fellow Serie A side Sampdoria and has went on to cement himself as one of the best defenders in Italy and in the world of football.

He has made 118 appearances across all competitions for the club in the time since with him having scored four goal and provided three assists for his teammate.

32 of those appearances have come this season for Inter’s number 37 with him having contributed a single assist this term to date.
