In an interview with Italian newspaper Il Giornale, Italian football federation president Gabriele Gravina has thrown another potential date when Serie A could resume out there.

Serie A, like every other league across Europe, is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but it remains completely unknown as to when the league might actually start up again, if at all, given the uncertainty of the currently ever changing situation.

In previous interviews in recent weeks Gravina, who has held his current role since 2018, has suggested May 3, May 10 and May 17 as dates that the league could potentially resume and he has now given another date.

“I must repeat that these dates were only ideas and not certainties. I would like to add another add and that is May 20,” he began the interview which appeared in today’s print edition.

“Raising the shutter over Italian football will offer the country an emotional boost and help it to recover a normal sense of life.”

With uncertainty over whether the season will be able to conclude, there has been plenty of speculation about alternative ways the season could be finished with Gravina previously suggesting the use playoffs to decide the champions, European competition places and relegation.

“I proposed the idea but it was not successful and I have taken note of it. We must behave and not give an image of internal controversy and opposing visions.

“We will have to get out of this terrible storm by realising, if possible, the idea of a new kind of football as well as a new world.”
