It is growing increasingly likely that the 2019/20 Serie A season will just be cancelled according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

All sporting activity in Italy is currently on hold until April 3 and teams are not allowed to train in groups until at least April 15 and clubs are growing pessimistic about the chances of the league campaign finishing.

Lega Serie A are trying their utmost to avoid this happening having already made a commitment to UEFA to finish the current season by June 30 at the latest.

Lega Serie A and the FIGC have however voiced concerns over the feasibility of being able to conclude the season by then and have suggested that they will need to play on until July.

The report goes on to state that an extreme scenario could see the 2019/20 season end in late July and then a week later the 2020/21 season would start up.

It goes on to conclude that there is still yet to have been a decision made on what would happen if the season was just to be cancelled with regard to titles being awarded, European competition places and relegation.
