UEFA Prioritise League Campaigns Over Champions League & Europa League

European football’s governing body UEFA have decided that leagues will have priority over the Champions League and Europa League according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

UEFA reportedly originally wanted the Champions League and Europa League to have precedence over the domestic campaigns on the continent but following a meeting with the European Club Association and European leagues yesterday, they have now changed their mind.

The aim is to allow leagues to finish by the end of June and then conclude the Champions League and Europa League in July.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to state that Lazio president Claudio Lotito wants to resume play immediately in Serie A but other presidents such as Sampdoria’s Massimo Ferrero wants the season finished now.

In the event the season does finish now, there could be playoffs to decide who wins the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, the report conclucdes.
