Francesco Acerbi could be handed a new and improved contract by Lazio as a reward for his performances this season according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
The experienced defender has had one of, if not, the best seasons of his playing career this term for the Serie A title chasing Biancocelesti club and this has led to some clubs developing an interest in signing him.
Inter and Premier League club Chelsea are both understood to have taken an interest in the former Sassuolo centre back who is currently under contract in the Italian capital until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Acerbi currently earns €1.8 million a season and the report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to state that Lazio could give him a new deal that would come with an annual salary of €2.5 million.
This season he has made 33 appearances across all competitions to date in which he has scored two goals and provided as many assists.
