A report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has highlighted two ideas regarding players’ salaries during the ongoing Coronavirus emergency.

The report details how the clubs have asked for players’ wages to be suspended for the time that they are unable to train or work due to the contagion, as the clubs have highlighted the financial instability this places upon them.

The first idea that has been proposed is to totally suspend the salaries for this period, the report continues. The other idea is to ask players to take a proportional cut in their salary, with the maximum percentage of salary that would be lost being 30%, only for those who earn the most. For those with contracts worth less than €50 thousand a year, there will be a supplementary redundancy fund or extension of solidarity contracts.

Everything depends on a common line between the Italian government, the League and the FIGC, the report highlights. The AIC will only be able to advise players but not impose anything on its members, and so now the players’ thoughts must be heard.
