Inter are interested in signing Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen as a replacement for Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin, who seems destined to leave the club this summer, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri aren’t fully convinced by the 34-year-old former Atletico Madrid defender, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2022. The player has struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and has often been pushed out of the starting eleven by 20-year-old Italian Alessandro Bastoni.

The Nerazzurri are considering signing Vertonghen as a replacement for Godin, the report continues. The Belgian defender’s contract expires with the North London club in the summer and could be signed on a free transfer. Godin could make the opposite journey and head to England to play under coach Jose Mourinho, who appreciates the Uruguayan’s qualities and has wanted to sign him since his time in charge of Manchester United.
