Lazio are ready to fight Inter for the signature of French striker Olivier Giroud in the summer, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 33-year-old French forward, who is currently contracted to Chelsea until the end of the season, made Inter his priority in the January transfer window, despite interest from many other clubs including the Biancocelesti. A move never materialised as the Milanese club focused their efforts on signing Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, but when Giroud’s contract expires Inter will try again.

Lazio, however, are set to provide strong competition for the 2018 World Cup winner, the report continues. The Roman club are ready to offer the Frenchman a three-year contract worth €3.5 million a season in order to convince him to head to the eternal city.

Giroud has made 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring three goals in that time.
