Lega Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino discussed the coronavirus emergency and its effect on Italian football in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.
First, he discussed when Serie A will return and if they are confident that they can finish this season.
“Serie A will return, without taking risks, only when health conditions and government decisions allow it.”
Dal Pino then spoke about how the Juventus players agreed to take a pay cut to help the club move through the current financial climate, which has been heavily affected by the Coronavirus emergency.
“A painful road, but virtuous and obligatory. A sense of responsibility on everyone’s part is essential. In general, we see an inevitable revision of the current model and periods of crisis often open up unique opportunities for innovation and relaunch.”
Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been suspended until further notice due to the spread of the Coronavirus, which has unfortunately killed over 9000 thousand people in Italy alone. Some Serie A players have contracted the virus, including Juventus star Paulo Dybala and Sampdoria forward Manolo Gabbiadini, although both players fully recovered.
UEFA have postponed this summer’s European Championship to next year due to the virus.
