Inter full back Ashley Young has shared his desire to remain with Inter past the end of this season as well as his desire to win some silverware with the club.

The experienced Englishman joined the club for a nominal fee from Premier League club Manchester United in the recent January transfer window on a six month contract with there being an option for another year.

Young has surprised many with the level of his performances given his age and he has rightly received lots of plaudits in the media.

In an interview with Milan based newspaper Corriere della Sera, which appeared in today’s print edition, the former Aston Villa man admitted he is loving life in Italy.

“I love Italy, Milan, I want to stay and win,” he began. “I am learning the language, you are people with lots of passion and you are nice too.

“I think that maybe Serie A is just more tactical than the Premier League. I chose Inter to win trophies and that is something that pushes anyone to go somewhere in the world.”

Young then spoke on how he has been coping during the global Coronavirus pandemic.

“There is a global pandemic: football is not important at present. People are dying. I often call a friend of mine. He was sick, had cancer, stayed six months in the hospital, suspended between life and death.

“He tells me how difficult it was. I think of him and what he went through. Staying at home is not difficult, we rediscover the affections for things which we never usually have time for. This period helps bring people together and I would say it is a great opportunity. Let’s not waste it.”

He then went on to explain how his move to Inter came about in the past few months.

“When Conte called me, I immediately felt his passion. Conte is not sitting waiting around, seeing him so involved pushed me.

“He has a winning mentality, he is a born winner. He leads every training session with the same passion and intensity of a match. Not all managers can do that.”

Young proceeded to discuss the fact that Inter are still fighting on three fronts.

“We are where we need to be. There is great quality in the squad, but the team has understood that to make the leap they have to work even harder.

“Maybe they lack a little experience and then it is true, Juventus beat us. They certainly have more experience in the squad than we do.”

He concluded the interview by discussing Christian Eriksen who also joined Inter in January.

“Eriksen has incredible pressure on him but it is players like him who make you win. He has incredible pressure on him, it happens when you are a player of his calibre. At Tottenham they did everything to keep him. He will be important to us.”
