Flamengo paid Inter a sum of €16.5 million for the permanent transfer of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa in the January transfer window as per the Brazilian club’s financial statements.

The Rubronegro club have published their financial statements up to the end of December 2019 and they include the exact sum paid for the striker, even though they did not officially buy him until January 27 2020.

Gabigol had spent the whole of 2019 on loan with them and proved pivotal in what was a historic year for Flamengo as they won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Copa Libertadores and reached the final of the Club World Cup. During this spell he scored 43 goals in 57 appearances across all competitions for the Rio de Janeiro based club.

A report from football finance experts Calcio e Finanza has highlighted that as a result of the €16.5 million receieved, Inter made a capital gain of €3.6 million on the 23-year-old, who they paid €30 million for back in the Summer of 2016.
